It's time for another Top Ten Tuesday! This time around we've been prompted to pick the 10 best books that we've read (so far!) in 2014.
Picking favorites is difficult.
These are in no particular order:
- The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
- The Bear by Claire Cameron
- Newtown: An American Tragedy by Matthew Lysiak
- Dept. of Speculation by Jenny Offill
- Shotgun Lovesongs by Nickolas Butler
- The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin
- The Worst Hard Time by Timothy Egan
- The Promise by Ann Weisgarber
- Animal Farm by George Orwell
- Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh
Read them all.
What are some of your 2014 favorites?
Nice list! I haven't read a single one of these, but The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry is on my TBR list. I keep seeing The Rosie Project all over the interwebs, so maybe I should give it a try. (But I'm already so swamped!)
ReplyDeleteThe Storied LIfe of AJ Fikry just moved to the top of my list. Looks like a good one! Best thing I've read this year is Reconstructing Amelia. I haven't finished yet, but really enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteUgh, The Bear. The very idea terrifies me. Great list!
ReplyDeleteOh man, you gave me the Doctor's TRUST ME gif. That's so harsh. Now I feel like I have to read them all, which I am SURE WAS THE POINT. LOL
ReplyDeleteI love these updates, it reminds me of titles I don't want to forget! I loved The Worst Hard Time. As a younger person, I didn't really like history, but as I get older my interest grows and that was a great book to spark the fire.
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading,
Shannon
I read The Rosie Project last year and it was a favorite of mine. Many others on your list are on my TBR, and I hope to read them soon, in particular The Bear, Newtown and AJ Fikry.
ReplyDeleteOK, the only one I've read is Animal Farm. FOR SHAME!! Looks like I have some more reading to do!! :)
ReplyDeleteGood list! I just picked up Shotgun Lovesongs from the library yesterday. I hope to start it soon. And The Worst Hard Time has been languishing on my bookshelves forever. I will have to bump it up a shelf. My unread books are organized by how much I want to read them.
ReplyDeleteI picked "Worst Hard Time" for my best-of-so-far list, too! And I think "Rosie Project" was the worst thing I read so far this year (don't hate, just wasn't my taste!)
ReplyDeleteI really liked Hyperbole and a Half. The Worst Hard Time was a great read.
ReplyDeleteThe Rosie Project is on my list too! And Life After Life.
ReplyDeleteI just picked up Dept. of Speculation at the library today - yay!!
ReplyDeleteMy TBR is already overflowing but if the Doctor's telling me I must read these I suppose I must. I've not read any of these including Animal Farm ( book shame) but have certainly heard of most. The Rosie Project is really as charming as everyone says??
ReplyDeletelol Don Tillman never wrote The Rosie Project, but I don't think Graeme Simsion would mind.
ReplyDeleteI really hope that was a joke rather than a typo because it makes a great joke.
Good list! I'm seeing AJ Fikry on a lot of Top 10 lists today.... Guess that means it goes on the pile! The ever-mounting pile.....
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any these, but they're exploding my wish list now. I've seen AJ Fikry all over the place today and The Bear sounds terrifying but powerful. Great list!
ReplyDeleteWell, now I have to read them all! I actually already have a plan hatching for AJ Fikry, so I feel like I'm at least sort of on top of things...
ReplyDeleteI think I'll be adding Dept. of Speculation to my list!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I haven't read ANY of the books on your list although there are 3 that I really want to read. Do you know I met the acquiring editor of Skyhorse Publishing at BEA and he was telling me about The Promise and how wonderful a book it was. He wished he had an extra copy to give me and I told him I would read the book based solely on his high recommendation. Now that I see it on your list, I'm reminded that it's one of those books I need to read. :-)
ReplyDeleteI read your #7, it was incredibly good! Each month I pick 1 or 2 favorites. Last month my favorite was a novel in French on WWI
ReplyDeleteShotgun Lovesongs is one of my Top 5 books of the year so far! I'm so glad to see someone else loved it too :) I thought Butler's writing made me think "yes, that's exactly how it is".
ReplyDeleteElizabeth is Missing by Emma Healey is shaping up to be one of the best books I have read in a while. I interviewed her last week and she is as interesting as her words. Here is the interview- http://goo.gl/zhdZFJ
ReplyDeleteGreat picks, my Mum is always raving about The Rosie Project. I must read it!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my TTT!

I can't stop looking at The Doctor. *sigh* :)
ReplyDeleteGreat picks! I have The Rosie Project sitting on my shelf, just waiting for me to pick it up... (I'll get to you soon, lovely book, I promise)
I'd really like to read The Rosie Project!
ReplyDeleteI'd really like to read The Rosie Project!
ReplyDeleteIt IS hard to pick favorites! I could probably spend hours just looking at my 4 & 5 star ratings and not being able to decide...
ReplyDeleteAlright then, we'll take your recommendations into account ;)
ReplyDeleteThe Rosie Project is an awesome book. Most books I think are awesome are dark or historical....but this one is hilarious and uplifting. everyone I know who read it gave it 10/10 although most of them are scientists like me so we may be biased. you got the author wrong though....it's by Graeme Simsion, he has a sequel coming out later this year I hear. :-)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these books yet though many have received a lot of positive reviews.
