I love this meme, it inspires me to be a bit more organized than usual!
Happy Monday everyone! Did you have a marvelous week? Did you read some great books? I hope so!
It was my 39th birthday on Saturday the 23rd. Yay me!

It went something like this |
I also visited my tattoo artist this weekend. We're working on a very bookish design. I'm extremely excited about it! Stay tuned for more.
Reviews:
Read:
The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell (Recommended to me by my 14 year old son)
Currently Reading:
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith A beautiful book that I haven't read in many years.
Upcoming:
The same books that I listed as upcoming last week. I have a few others waiting for me at the library as well. (Including Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore and The Devil in the White City)
Bloggish Business:
The Classic Club picked a spin number. I'll be reading Dangerous Liaisons by Pierre Choderlos De Laclos. I'm very happy with that selection and I'm looking forward to diving into the book.
Happy reading!
Oh, and here's a bit of Ryan Gosling to put a smile on your face. It always works for me!
I won a copy of A Tree Grows In Brooklyn last year, or could have been the year before that *oops* and I still haven't read it ... must do!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated 39th and thanks for the Ryan Gosling share ... always appreciated lol
Oh please do read it, it's absolutely wonderful!
DeleteThanks for the birthday wishes! RG always makes me smile ;)
Happy belated birthday! And yes, definitely share your bookish tattoo plans as they unfold! Very interested to see what you come up with :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you! I saw some preliminary sketches and I'm crazy excited!
DeleteHappy Birthday (better late than never eh)!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear more about your bookish tattoo. I have two tattoos, none book related, and will no doubt keep at the two I have. I live through the tattoos of others instead.
I hope you get through your reads this week, there are some good reads by the looks of it.
Thanks Jade :) I have 5 tattoos...they are a bit addictive ;)
DeleteI can't believe that I've never read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn...now I must! Your week looks tempting...loved the review of The Guilty One.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog...and enjoy your week. Happy birthday and tattoo choices! My daughter has quite a few...you should photograph yours for us.
You really must read it Laurel, it's fantastic! Thanks for the bday wishes :) I'll definitely share photos when I get my next tattoo!
DeleteHappy Birthday!!!! I can't wait to see your tattoo design! I have a few tattoos (two) and my next is going to be reading related as well, but just a quote I think..
ReplyDeleteI have never read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I actually started reading it, lost the book, and never did anything else. I should probably read it though.
Thanks Erin :) I'm so excited about this next tat that I can hardly stand it! It's going to incorporate some of my favorite books and book quotes. I can't wait!
DeleteYou really should read it, it's a wonderful classic. You'd love it!
Happy Birthday, Jennifer!! I'm sure you recieved a lot of books in your day! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd a new tattoo, how exciting!! I also love tattoss, and I have one in my entire arm (not bookish, but I like it anyway, hehehe).
And I loved A tree grows in Brooklyn. I knew you were reading it because I saw it on Goodreads :)) This book was translated for the firs time into Spanish 5 years ago, and a lot of people read it and loved it. Francie is lovely!
Thanks so much Isi! I'd love to see your tattoo! I'm glad to hear that you were able to read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, I just loooove that book!
DeleteA bookish tattoo? Now that's a neat idea. I've heard Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore is really good. I need to get my hands on a copy of it.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my Monday post.
I'm very much looking forward to getting my new ink. I'm not sure when it's going to happen as we're still working on the final design.
DeleteI can't wait to start reading Penumbra, I've heard so many good things about it.
Happy Birthday! I too loved A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. It is one of the very few books that I have read more than once. Can't wait for the tattoo update!
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading,
Rebecca @ The Key to the Gate
Thanks Rebecca! It's a re-read for me as well. It had been too long!
DeleteI wanted to show you the beautiful Spanish cover (at least I like it very much):

Thanks so much for sharing that cover Isi, it's lovely and I'd never seen it!
DeleteHappy belated Birthday.
ReplyDeleteI am so curious about A Tree Grows in Brooklyn but do not have the best track record when it comes to American classics so I am a bit scared to pick it up.
I read a big part of the Devil in the White City and did enjoy it a lot though I did not finish it. I hope to get my hands on a Dutch version of the book.
Have a great week!
Thanks Ciska! I find A Tree Grows in Brooklyn to be very accessible. It's not as dense and deep as some American classics. I totally recommend it!
DeleteOoh I hope you show the sketch of the bookish tattoo you're going to get - and Happy Belated Birthday!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tanya! I'll be sharing pictures for sure!!
DeleteI can't wait to hear more about your bookish tattoo! I've been thinking about getting another one myself. Happy belated birthday! You look so young (you are). I thought you would be around 29 or 30. :-) Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteYay for tattoos! Permanent creativity :)
DeleteYou are my new favorite person in the world, lol. Thanks!
I would love to hear more about your bookish tattoo, great idea! I like that you also read a yoga book this week.
ReplyDeleteHave a great reading week,
kind regards,
I can't wait to share pictures of it! I'm not sure if I'll post some design photos or wait until the ink is actually on my skin :)
DeleteHappy Birthday to you! That sounds so exciting about the bookish tattoo - looking forward to a photo of it. And yoga, the added video clips, I just have to send them to my yoga teacher for a smile - she teaches Hatha-yoga, which is slower, and more about the inner posture, too. Here's a video from an online hatha-yoga class i sometimes play here to follow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3kA7G3hZbg
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week! Happy reads ~
Thanks for the birthday wishes Dorothee :) I think I'd be a lot more interested in Hatha than Bikram. Hatha sounds gentler
DeleteHappy birthday! Intrigued about your tattoo, you'll have to let us see! :)
ReplyDeleteI'll absolutely share! :D
DeleteHappy belated birthday! And I'm intrigued by the bookish tattoo - you'll have to post photos as some point in the future.
ReplyDeleteI've not read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I'm not sure why, as I know I would love it.
Thanks Sam :D
DeleteI would almost 100% guarantee that you'd love A Tree Grows in Brooklyn!
Happy Birthday! Hope you had a fab time. Intrigued by the bookish tattoo.
ReplyDeleteHi Karen :) Thanks, I did!!
DeleteBelated birthday wishes, am intrigued by the bookish tattoo also, mine are more fairy and celtic inspired so I'd love to see a picture. I've heard of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn but as of yet have not tired it out, hope you enjoy re reading it, sometimes a book just deserves to be re read a couple of times. I may have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ruth :) I've been thinking of getting a book inspired tattoo for the longest time but I couldn't make up my mind about which book to feature. It will have elements of a lot of my favorite reads! I couldn't pick just one. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is deserving of many re-reads :)
DeleteHappy Belated Birthday! Can't wait to see your tattoo design!
ReplyDeleteThanks Chris!!
DeleteHappy Birthday!!! Hope it was fabulous, just like you!
ReplyDeleteCool about the bookish tattoo. Ryan Gosling always make me smile too :)

ReplyDeleteThanks Jen! Indeed I did, lol
DeleteHappy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteA Tree Grows in Brooklyn is one of my favorite books of all time!
Thanks a million :) It's one of my favorites too!
DeleteI'm interested to know what your tattoo is! I'm not a tattoo person myself, like I don't want one on my body but I love other people's!!!
ReplyDeleteI also just got The Unchangeable Spots from Netgalley and I'm excited to read it based on your rec!
It's going to be amazing! The design will incorporate a few of my favorite books, a few of my favorite quotes and other awesome stuff ;) I look forward to sharing it with all of you :)
DeleteOh! I hope you really like Spots! I can't wait to hear what you think :)
I hope you share a pic of your new bookish tattoo, I'd love to see it! I have 2 myself and if I ever find a bee design I love I'll be adding that to the collection! ;)
ReplyDeleteI've never read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn; not sure I'd heard of it until I moved to Canada, or I just never really noticed it before. Sounds like it's a bit of a must-read classic though.
I have Dangerous Liaisons to-read too, but those long classic novels just keep slipping further and further down my to-read mountain. :(
I think I might need to start a pinterest board of all my blogging buddies tattoos! I'm so curious to see them all :)
DeleteA Tree Grows in Brooklyn is definitely what I would call a must-read classic. (In fact, a quote from that book will be in my new tattoo!)
I'm looking forward to Dangerous Liaisons. That's the great thing about The Classics Club, it compels me to read these sorts of books :)
Oh and I completely meant to say Happy Birthday - "Happy Birthday!!" Sounds like you had a good'un! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Shannon! I did!
DeleteI love the Lucy clip! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks Yvonne ;) Same to you!
DeleteHappy birthday! I'm also really hoping that you'll post an image of your tattoo once it happens. We all want to know what it is!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Penumbra for what it is, so hopefully you'll like once you get it from the library. Have a super week :-)
I promise that I will. I pinky swear! Cross my heart ;)
DeleteI'm looking forward to it. A book about books...it has to be decent right??
I've always wanted to read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn but have yet to do so. Enjoy the rest of your week!
ReplyDeleteMove it to the top of your tbr pile Laura :) You won't be disappointed!
DeleteHappy Birthday Jennifer!!! I hope you had an amazing celebration. :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy all of your books this week - I can't wait to see what you think of Year of Wonders and Mr. Penumbra.
I'm about a 100 pages in to Year of Wonders..wow! Great book so far :)
DeleteThanks for the birthday wishes Lindsey!
Happy Birthday! Can't wait to see the tattoo when you get that sorted and etched.
ReplyDeleteRyan BabyGoose! Yay!
Thanks ;) Ryan BabyGoose, lol!! I've never heard that, lol, awesome!
DeleteI want to hear more about the tattoo! I have one and have always wanted another... a bookish tattoo would be awesome. Hope you're enjoying Tree Grows in Brooklyn, I loved it.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until I have something to show all of you :) A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is one of the finest books ever written if you ask me!
DeleteHow can you not smile when you look at Ryan Gosling?? :-)
ReplyDeleteMy teens and I read "The Most Dangerous Game" in our homeschool; we really enjoyed it.
Happy belated birthday! In my book, at 39, you're a mere child. ;-)
Right?! He's such a cutie-pie! I enjoyed The Most Dangerous Game too, spooky goodness :)
DeleteThanks for the birthday wishes! A mere child, love to hear that! lol
Sorry I missed your birthday! I would have sent you a card had I known. But it's on my calendar for next year! The big 4-0...
ReplyDelete40! Ack! That sounds so WEIRD to me! ;)
DeleteThe Devil in the White City is one of my Off The Shelf reading goals for this year. And since I'm from the city of the white city I probably should have read it already like everyone else in Chicago!
ReplyDeleteSomeone from the area told me that it's starting to show up on high school reading lists. I think that is super!
DeleteI see "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" in bookstores and always remember an afternoon I shared with a friend several years ago. We talked about books, our pending divorces, and good food. She highly recommended the book, along with "Eat, Pray, Love." I bought Gilbert's but still have yet to get "A Tree..." I think it's about time! : )
