Looky, some of my favorite blogs are reviewing A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick.
It sounds like an amazing read, and hey it takes place in my home state of Wisconsin!
Typey type on local library's website to request it.
Woot! An email from the library, my new book is in!
Zoom Zoom across town to pick up my request.
Wow, the cover looks familiar to me.
Hmm, the words are even more familiar to me.
I've already read this damn book.
Brilliant Jennifer, brilliant.
Thankfully the rest of my blogging and reading week went much smoother than that!
Read and NOT (yet) Reviewed:
Current and Upcoming Reads:
I've just started The Homecoming of Samuel Lake by Jenny Wingfield
Up next...The Second Empress by Michelle Moran
Other Blogging Bits:
Many of you know that Book Blogger Appreciation Week just wrapped up. I can't say enough about this event. I met so many wonderful people, I found a lot of new blogs to read and I have a whole new respect for what we do and why we do it.
My BBAW participation posts:
I featured my very first guest blogger here this week! Brian from Babbling Books wrote a wonderfully thoughtful post about To Kill A Mockingbird. Thanks again Brian! I do hope you'll check out his thoughts here. Beautifully done!
Big Exciting News! The Relentless Reader has hit the 100 follower mark. I'm so grateful you guys! Click here to enter my giveaway. Who wouldn't want to win a free book of their choice? Only a fool, that's who!
Have a groovy week of reading!
I understand your pain. Only I usually buy the book to find out I already have it and have read it. The Second Empress looks good. I hope you enjoy it. My Monday Report is here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteOh! I'd be one upset girl if I bought a book that I'd already read! I'm looking forward to The Second Empress. I don't know a ton about that period in history and I'm looking forward to learning :)Thanks for stopping by Kathy!
DeleteLOL you are not alone ;)
ReplyDeleteHope you love The Homecoming of Samuel Lake as much as I did and I also really enjoyed The Second Empress, big fan of Michelle Moran's writing.
Have a great week and happy reading :)
Thanks ;) I'm a little bit into Samuel Lake and so far so good. I've mostly liked Moran's books too so I have high hopes for Empress.
DeleteThanks for visiting!
I've read Gone with the Wind but back in the days before my website was a book blog.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book this week was the audio of Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer. Please come see what I'm reading now.
GWTW was a re-read for me, I'm glad I spent the time doing that. Such a fab book :) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteLOL, I think we have all done that at least once! Congrats on 100 followers!
ReplyDeleteHave a great reading week,
Shelleyrae @ Book'd Out
I smacked myself in the forehead ;) Duh Jen! It was something I must have read when it first came out (before I had a blog to record and remember such things)
DeleteThanks for visiting :)
I had to laugh - that sucks ... but at lease it was a book you actually liked! Congrats on your blogging milestone, and I hope you enjoy all the books you're reading this week.
ReplyDeleteI laughed at myself, that's for sure ;) Thanks for your kind words and thanks for dropping in :)
DeleteOh my gosh!! Lol! I have done that before too! The cover on my book was different, maybe that threw you. ;)
ReplyDeleteI have wanted to read The Homecoming of Samuel Lake, but I have also heard there is a scene in it I am not sure I could take. When you finish reading it, I will have to ask you about it. The Hundred Flowers sounds really good, I will have to read it.
Congrats on 100 followers!
I do think the different cover design had something to do with it! Can I blame you?? LOL
DeleteI'll let you know what I think of Samuel Lake, so far so good :)
I've enjoyed Moran's work, but I haven't gotten her newest yet. Her reads are always fresh and of page turning status. AND LMAO at the the Goolrick adventure!!! I read several mixed reviews and it seems like it would not be a cuppa tea with the psycho/sex thing but otherwise the creepiness of it did at first intrigue me.
ReplyDeleteI would love to be able to read Gone With the Wind again.
Thanks for visiting my Monday post.
I was thinking ooooh it's supposed to be kinda creepy, great read for the RIP event. Whoops, lol.
DeleteI'm looking forward to reading this newest Moran, I like her work as well.
I dare ya to pick up Gone With the Wind again ;) It's a chunky, but fabulous, book!
Your books sound interesting! Have another great reading week...
ReplyDeleteHere is my Monday post!!
Thanks, and thanks for visiting :)
DeleteI guess I'm the same kind of "moron" as you....only I actually bought a second copy of a book I'd already read (and owned).
ReplyDeleteWhat does that say about the books? There are so many similar plots....
Enjoy your reading, and thanks for visiting my blog.
I'm glad I'm not the only one ;)
DeleteToo funny! So does that mean you liked it, or not? ;)
ReplyDeleteI really need to get around to reading GWTW, I keep hearing how awesome it is!
I *think* I liked it? LOL, honestly my poor memory!
DeleteYou should Kelly! It's amazing :)
Samuel Lake looks really good! Everyone has enjoyed it so far, hope you like it!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful reading week :)
Whatcha readin' this week @ the Brunette Librarian :)
So far I'm enjoying it, lots of interesting characters!
DeleteI was hoping that book blogging would cure me of that problem, but I've still ended up buying a second paperback of a book I already read in the last year.
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading!
I'm really hoping that I can keep a better record of what I've read, but since I'm new to blogging I have years of reading behind me wherein I kept zero record. So this will probably happen to me a time or two more ;)
ReplyDeleteI guess when we read as many books as we do, it's bound to happen eventually that we'll forget we've read some!
ReplyDeleteHere's My Monday
I wish I had a better method for keeping track. Or better yet: I wish there were blinking lights on the books that I've already read, lol.
DeleteThat's why I hate when they change the book cover or even the book title depending on what country it's published! Don't feel so bad...it can easily happen to anyone especially if you read a lot of books.
ReplyDeleteMe too! Why do they do that?? To confuse our poor minds?
DeleteI'll be curious to read your review of A Hundred Flowers - I listened to it a few weeks ago and thought it was pretty good. This was a new-to-me author and now I want to check out some of her other books.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
~Kristin @ Always With a Book
I'm fairly certain that I haven't read any of her other work either, but I'd love to. Then again, maybe I've read everything of hers..my memory is shot lately. ;)
DeleteHi Jennifer! So nice that we are poetry online co-students these days : ) And great mix of book you are reading / have read. i'm looking especailly forward to your international reviews, "First They Killed My Father" by Loung Ung - i once travelled through Cambodia. and also, "A Hundred Flowers" by Gail Tsukiyama, on China. i guess both have been demanding reads.
ReplyDeleteHave a great reading week~
Dorothee
I'm still a nervous nelli about poetry but I'm hoping that by the end of the course I'll have a much better understanding of it all :)
DeleteThey both were demanding reads, but well worth it. I always find myself drawn to those heavy sort of books.
A RELIABLE WIFE was very good.
ReplyDeleteMUDBOUND was excellent too, and of course GONE WITH THE WIND.
I want to check out A HUNDRED FLOWERS...sounds good.
Thanks for this great post.

Thank you Elizabeth :) I really had a great reading week, those are the best! :D
DeleteI am sure you are not the first or the last to accidentally pick up a book you've already read. It's a peril of book loving, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteThe Homecoming of Samuel Lake sounds great. I will definitely check back for your thoughts. :)
The dangers we readers face! Right?? ;)
DeleteSo far I can hardly stand to put it down, I'm pretty much devouring it!
Heh, I'm not saying anything... my recollection of a book I've read earlier in the year (or before that) usually becomes hazy. That comes with reading a lot I think? ;) Also, I tend to forget which books I've got on the shelves. But I haven't yet purchased the same book twice *phew*
ReplyDeleteBBAW was amazing, wasn't it? :) I'm slowly backtracking through your blogposts...
It's so nice to hear from everyone that I'm not the only silly book lover who has accidentally reread something! One good thing for me is that I rarely buy books anymore. I had to cut myself off a few years ago. So the worst that can happen is that I make an extra trip to the library!
DeleteBBAW was so much fun! I had a great feeling about this community from the start. Seeing it in action was amazing :D
If I didn't write down all the books I read, I'd never remember if I was picking up a duplicate until I started reading. Sometimes I've even spent money on a duplicate :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Oh no Yvonne, lol, I just said in the comment above that at least I don't re-buy books! Whoops ;) Ah well, I suppose you can wrap 'em up and give 'em as gifts!
DeleteThanks for visiting!
Ha! I love that! I don't think I've ever reread something - yet. ;-) I can't wait to read your thoughts on The Homecoming of Samuel Lake. It's a book with a lot of charm. Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteYou had better knock on wood ;) Or the next thing you know you'll pick up a "new" book and the words will seem very familiar!
ReplyDeleteI'm sitting here with Samuel Lake right now..CAN'T. PUT. IT. DOWN! :)
I don't think I've actually done that, but I know that it's been a near thing several times. Don't feel bad!
ReplyDeleteI just read Madame Tussaud by Michelle Moran and loved it. It was one of my favorites so far this year. Enjoy your week! Oh, and congratulations on 100 followers!
Thanks for visiting Jen ;) I saw you tweeted about the giveaway, thanks! I really liked Madame Tussaud as well!
DeleteI am totally giggling over your journey to only find out you have read it before. Brilliant, great laugh for us :-)
ReplyDeleteWhy did I think I was following you all this time, ugggh, sorry.
LOL, I'm glad you got a giggle out of it! ;) It really was funny. It's not the first time it's happened to me either, sigh. I'm hoping it will happen less now that I'm blogging~!
DeleteWell thanks for following me now Marce, I appreciate it!
LOL I guess that might happen sometimes :D
ReplyDeleteI really need to read Gone With the Wind, I just keep postponing...
Happy reading & have a great week & congrats on all the followers!
I've done that before. When you read a lot like we do, it is easy to do! :)
